AI16Z will rebrand its project to ElizaOS to reflect its growing influence and position in the AI agent space. The AI16Z ticker will remain active, to be replaced after a DAO vote.
The decentralized organization AI16Z will rebrand its project to Eliza OS after brand confusion concerns raised by the legitimate a16z (Andreessen Horowitz) firm. The creator of ElizaOS stated the initial idea was to create a name to draw attention to the project and raise the initial funds for a crypto AI agent.
The change arrived after Chris Dixon, managing partner at a16z, mentioned that the AI project was creating brand confusion during a recent interview with Unchained Crypto. Dixon reportedly said a16z has asked the project to change its name, leading to the rebranding process starting today.
AI16Z to keep visual identity, vote on new ticker in the future
As AI16Z became one of the top AI agent tickers, concerns about leaching off the name of the original a16z fund continued to mount. Now, the DAO will instead use the branding for its AI agent platform, Eliza OS, according to the project’s founder, Shaw Walters.
To our community and partners,
We are turning toward the next chapter of the project. As we continue to expand across multiple countries, develop our core technology, and foster an incredible community of builders, we are implementing a comprehensive rebranding initiative to… https://t.co/tcoXrPeH0v

The change happens as the project increased its assets under management by over 300% and gained influence as a DAO.
After consolidating its influence in just three months since AI agents first gained prominence, the rebranded DAO will seek more partnerships and offer its Eliza OS technology to other projects.
The project will retain Eliza as its mascot and logo, with no additional assets or identities In the launch pipeline. It will use the AI16Z ticker for a while longer, pending when it decides on a new one through a DAO vote.
It will not consider ELIZA in its search for a new ticker as the name has been used for two tokens tied to the project. The ticker has not been retained as an official one for the DAO or the AI agent platform.
AI16Z moves into platform-building
AI16Z launched in October 2024, just as Truth Terminal started the frenzy for AI agents. The project aimed to work as an AI-simulated investment fund, which still relied on user fund inflows to generate earnings.
In the meantime, the team was working on its own AI agent platform, the Eliza framework. Eliza was lagging behind Virtuals Protocol, which became one of the major platform trends at the end of last year. Currently, AI16Z remains one of the influential AI agents in terms of token value. However, the project faces serious competition from other frameworks and chains.
The recent introduction of DeepSeek is seen as another boost to the AI space, as new agents try to tap the additional language model. After the initial rebrand, the project will work toward a more cohesive message, while focusing on the features of its AI agent framework.
The team is currently working on Eliza V2, aiming to become one of the most feature-rich platforms for launching new agents. Currently, the project partners with various agent creators to expand the capabilities of existing agents with additional features and larger resource allocation.
AI16Z native token hopes for a breakout
Despite joining the space for AI agent platforms, the native AI16Z token is lagging in terms of price action. The asset broke under $0.60, sparking fears of a more significant breakdown. The token recovered briefly above $0.61, retaining a relatively high open interest above $88M.
The AI token still depends on Bybit and decentralized trading for its price discovery, despite being one of the most prominent tokens in the space. AI16Z still survives, though the earlier ELIZA tokens, aimed to tap the meme side of the project, remained more illiquid and less relevant.
Currently, the project relies on the treasury it built up in the initial inflow of investors and holders of the AI16Z token. However, without a launchpad and AI framework, the token could not replicate the success of Virtuals Protocol (VIRTUAL).
AI16Z slid to a total valuation of $652M, leaving the $1B group. The asset remains one of the top 3 AI agent tokens, though the agent space is still valued under $10B.
