Doja Cat’s Twitter Account Hacked to Promote Solana-Based Meme Coin

  • Doja Cat’s Twitter account was hacked to promote a Solana-based meme coin.
  • The $DOJA token saw fewer than 15,000 transactions, generating about $2.2 million.
  • Celebrity social media accounts are being targeted for digital currency scams.

American rapper and singer Doja Cat found herself among the many celebrities who have had their social media accounts hacked when her Twitter (now X) account was compromised to promote a Solana-based meme coin. She promptly took to Instagram and informed her 24 million fans that she was not behind the questionable posts.

The compromised Doja Cat account began tweeting about cryptocurrency at 7:15 pm ET on Monday. The first post included a link to a holding address and a message urging users to “buy $DOJA or else.”

The hacker sent over two dozen tweets and deleted Doja Cat’s profile image and description from her account. Twitter users instantly reported that the account, with about 5.6 million followers, had been hijacked.

The hacker’s tweets mentioned other celebrities, including Iggy Azalea. Azalea, who frequently tweets about her own $MOTHER meme coin and Crypto Twitter, responded to the incident.

She tweeted, “Get rugged if yall want, but I’m cool with that girl in real life so yall fucked up with that tweet hackers.” Her response highlighted the community’s awareness of the hack.

Blockchain records and market data revealed that the new $DOJA token, available on Solana market maker Raydium, saw muted activity, generating about $2.2 million in volume with fewer than 15,000 transactions. This incident is part of a growing trend of celebrities’ social media accounts being hacked, usually involving Solana-based meme coins.

Last month, former wrestling star Hulk Hogan’s Twitter account was hacked to promote a similar scam. Following that, rapper 50 Cent and the band Metallica also had their accounts compromised.

The hacking of Doja Cat’s Twitter account highlights an ongoing issue with social media security where celebrities with millions of followers are common targets, using their accounts to spread cryptocurrency frauds. Despite the hackers’ efforts, the $DOJA token saw limited activity, reflecting a cautious response from the crypto community.
